Overdue Fines
The Library System has recently gone “fine-free,’’ extending a no late-fee policy enacted at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and joining libraries across the country to end a practice that can be a barrier to access.
Although The Library no longer charges its members late fees, in order for us to continue this practice we would appreciate it if you would either renew or return your borrowed items by the due dates. Replacement fees will be added to your account for lost items.
If more than $10 is owed, borrowing privileges will be suspended.
A bill for lost items is sent to you when your items are 45 days overdue. That bill will include a billing fee for each item. *If we can‘t reach you by phone after the 3 day calling period, you will receive a print notice by default.
Item Fees for Damaged or Lost Materials
- Borrowers are responsible for the replacement cost of lost or damaged library materials.
- A billing fee of up to $11 will be added for each lost item.
- A cost of up to $8 will be charged for missing pieces from sets or kits.
Request Library Materials
Our interlibrary loan service also allows you to borrow from other library systems.

Why can’t I log into my account?

- Confirm that you are using your correct PIN. This is the 4-digit number you chose when you registered for a
library card. If you do not know your PIN please read the “How do I find out my PIN?”section below. - Make sure you are using your active library card, and not one that you have previously reported as lost or stolen.

What is Auto Renewal?
The Library now offers automatic renewal of checked out items. Eligible items will be renewed for you 3 days prior to
their due date.
To be eligible for auto renewal, accounts must be in good standing with no blocks or restrictions and account balance
under $10.
Items must be renewable three days prior to their due dates when the Due Date Reminder is sent. The following
conditions will prevent a borrowed item from being renewed:
– Item is on hold for another member.
– Item is an Interlibrary Loan or District Loan.
– Item has
reached its 5 renewal limit for your borrowing period.
Will I be notified?
If you have provided an email address, we will notify you of your new or upcoming due dates in a Due Date Reminder
email.
You can add an email address by accessing yourLibrary Account.
An email address is not required for auto renewal. Members without an
email address will still have their eligible items renewed automatically and can monitor due dates inMy Account.
What if my items were not automatically renewed?
Items that did not auto renew may be manually renewable later.
How often can items be renewed?
DCLS Library materials can be renewed up to 5 times, unless requested by another patron. Bestseller Express are non-renewable. District and Interlibrary Loans renewals are dependent upon the lending library.
How do I return materials?
All materials can be returned to any DCLS library regardless of where the item was originally checked out. Book returns are conveniently located at all of our eight libraries, including outdoor book drops for after-hours returns.
