By M. Diane McCormick

Sarah Davis enjoyed her years as a high school family and consumer science teacher, but she wanted to share knowledge with the broader community.

Last year, she joined Penn State Execution as an educator, taking programs in food safety, health and nutrition, and lifestyles to people of all ages throughout southcentral Pennsylvania.

On Oct. 23, she will present Kitchen Discovery at Northern Dauphin County Library, introducing children and parents to the fun learning — and tasty foods — that can be found right there at home.

“The Library is a perfect fit for reaching diverse audiences,” Davis said. “Libraries have always been, for me, a space for exploration. I love that they continue to be that for future generations.”

What makes libraries so well suited to your community outreach?

What better place to host an event like this where families and individuals can get together for learning and fun? I did that a lot as a child. It’s that kind of community feel that you get in the library.

How can libraries play a role in educating residents about well-being and health? Libraries are a place of discovery and learning. It’s wonderful to be a teacher in a place where people can come in for exploration or to check out a book.

Are you planning any future events planned with The Library?

I’m excited to have this first program with Dauphin County Library System, and there’s definitely the potential for more. There are lots of options available. I’m always happy to support and partner with libraries because I know they are the centers of so many communities.
