Pay it Forward

The Library System has recently gone “fine-free,’’ extending a no late-fee policy enacted at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and joining libraries across the country to end a practice that can be a barrier to access.

The Pay It Forward initiative helps to replace these funds in The Library’s budget.

Evidence shows that late fees as low as our 25 cents a day charge can create a significant barrier for many library users and disproportionately affect children and families with fewer financial resources.

Some members will stop using their library entirely when they know they have a charge on their account.
