Join #TheLibrary after hours as we feature local heavy metal band Arm The Slaves. Before the concert, meet the band, learn about the instruments they use, and how they create their music. Set list includes original songs as well as covers of popular music.

(This program is designed for adults. Refreshments will be provided. No registration required.)

In anticipation of their performance, The Library was able to interview Arm The Slaves:

Arm The Slaves and The Library are both based out of central PA. Is there anything your band members really enjoy about The Library or the Harrisburg area?

Connor used the library a lot back in middle and high school since it was connected to the Millersburg Middle/High School. Sometimes he’d rent out ten CD’s at a time and rip them on his computer at home, expanding his music library. We all appreciate the free internet access at all the available locations as well. HACC is an excellent community college, three of us attend it currently. Midtown arts center is a great venue as well. The Front Street Diner is a great place to eat. Shout out to JB Lovedrafts (bar) because it plays heavy metal and has cool vintage games.

What are some of your favorite bands/artists? Are there any non-musical (e.g. film, books, art) influences on your music?

The majority of our musical influences include Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Metallica, Slipknot, Nirvana, and Tool.

We write material that makes you feel something internally. Like when we play fast songs we want people to mosh to or boost some adrenaline while working out.

What would you say to someone who does not have a lot of experience with metal or rock music, to convince them to give it a shot?

It never hurts to broaden your tastes in music, movies, food, art, etc. Don’t knock it ‘till you try it. Ignore the stigma that all of it is “satanic” because that is rarely the case. Most of it is just loud screams trying to get their voice to be heard and their words across to their audience. Don’t judge the screaming vocals before understanding the meaning.

Is there anything you’d like to say to the library users who are coming to see you in concert?

Keep using the library because it is a free, clean, and efficient setting for those who need reliable and steady resources. Keep supporting local music like this event. It means a lot to the artists who put a lot of work in preparation and practicing. Thank you all and whatever you do after leaving, be safe!
