It’s getting colder outside, and if the kids are feeling cooped up there’s plenty to do with them at The Library this winter! Dauphin County Library System has several new programs occurring this winter season and we’ve got something for everyone.

Do the kids miss a good old fashioned snowball fight? Want to take it to the next level? In the Super Snowball Challenge, participants will spend 5 weeks building structures like trebuchets and catapults! All of this will lead up to an epic indoor snowball fight INSIDE the library, with fake snowballs of course!

Is your family looking for all ages? Get out of the cold and into our program There’s SNOW Place Like the Library for crafts, STEAM challenges, and stories! You can also join us in This Program is for the Birds where you’ll learn about Feed the Birds Day. We’ll also teach you ways to help our feathered friends thrive all through the winter. Consider joining us in Around the World in 12 Fairytales! In this program participants of all ages will get to travel the globe through fairy tales and folklore. These programs are all kid friendly and perfect for families looking to do something fun this winter.

Don’t think we’ve forgotten about our teenage patrons! If you’re looking for something suited more for your teen then don’t miss the Mar10 Day Celebration, also known as Mario Day! This event will occur on Monday, March 10th at the East Shore Area and Elizabethville Libraries. Teens will get to watch the Super Mario Bros Movie together, have snacks, make crafts, and win prizes!

Also, did you know that The Library has a new partnership with the Arc of Pennsylvania? The Library this winter will be working with them to offer their program Disability Acceptance through Literature! In this virtual book study, students ages 8-12 years old, engage in facilitated discussion on understanding disabilities and acceptance of oneself and others. All learners are welcomed and accommodated. The group will read Better with Butter by Victoria Piontek, provided to each registered student free of charge.

There’s plenty to do this winter at The Library to keep you and your family out of the cold! We hope to see you at one of our family events. Let’s beat the cold together and have some fun!
