The Ides of March

Julius Caesar, emperor of ancient Rome, was warned by a soothsayer of danger on or before March 15th, the Ides of March.  The Ides marked the halfway point of the month.  On March 15th, 44 B.C, as many as 60 rivals and traitors stabbed Caesar no less than 23 times.  Inspired by the seminal event, Shakespeare coined the phrase “Beware the Ides of March” in his 1601 tragedy “Julius Caesar.”

Immerse yourself in the life and times of one of the most accomplished military and political leaders of the ancient world and Shakespeare’s rendering of his gruesome murder.
