Friends of East Shore Area Library (FESAL)

Friends Annual Meeting

On September 25, 2012, we held our Annual Meeting, with 35 members and 7 non-members in attendance.  Three of the 7 non-members signed up to join the Friends!  Norman Lacasse, a former forester with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was our guest speaker for the Friends Annual Meeting.

The attending members voted on the slate of officers which will be shown on our website in January.  They also voted to change our bylaws regarding the membership year to be from January 1 to December 31 (instead of being from May 1 to April 30).

For this year ONLY, members who joined at or after the September 2012 Annual meeting will have an expiration date of 12/31/13. The expiration date for everyone else has been changed from 4/30/13 to 12/31/12. Therefore, membership dues for the 2013 calendar year are now being accepted (labels show "12/31/12"). Membership fees have NOT changed.

Book sales are held in the spring & fall, normally April/May & October. Volunteer opportunities involve helping to collect, sort, & sell books at our book sales.  Our books are all donated and many of our members volunteer their time to “work” at the sales.  All of our proceeds from book sales, along with members’ donations, benefit the East Shore Area Library (ESAL).  We have given ESAL more than $100,000 over the past ten years from our fundraising which has allowed the library to purchase audiobooks, shelving, chairs, display fixtures, and more. In 2011, FESAL pledged $53,000 to renovate one of ESAL’s meeting rooms to convert it into a space dedicated to provide children’s programming.  To date, we have received $46,000 towards our goal. The dedication of the “Dr. Henry Greenawald Room” was held at on April 9, 2012. Donations are still being accepted toward the goal.

As a member of FESAL, you are eligible to attend the annual meeting and also “Members Only” book sales during the membership year (normally the day before the public gets to buy books).  You will also receive our Newsletter “Just Between Friends”.  Membership is open to anyone at least 18 years old.  Children 17 and younger may attend the “Members Only” book sales with a parent or sibling who is a member.
