K. Wade & Jean D. Seibert Family

In memory of Melba Caroline Rathfon Shultz

Melba Shultz was a long time resident of South Railroad Street in Hummelstown. A graduate of Hummelstown High School, she was a prodigious reader. Her friends and family can recall her many trips to the Hummelstown community library to select books for her personal reading and for those in her care, making her a role model for others.

She and her husband, Bob, raised two children, Cindy and Dave who graduated from Lower Dauphin. The library was used by the whole family. Melba also adopted every child in the neighborhood and treated each one of them as special. Special meant reading to them and reading with them. Again, the library was always her resource.

Will and Sara Marian Seibert came to love her as their special Baba. Because of that love, the Seiberts have donated the Children’s Room of the Library in her memory.

One of Hummelstown’s most caring individuals, Melba gave of herself in her kindnesses to so many. In her own unique way she nurtured many and that is why it is so fitting that the children’s room at the new community library be dedicated to her memory. Never was there a child who did not enjoy and benefit from her company and companionship. The Seibert family is pleased to make this donation in honor of this fine lady who devoted her time to help make Hummelstown a better place in which to live.
