Welcome to the 2013 Summer Reading Club, “Dig Into Reading”
Summer reading is a great way to keep learning through the summer months. Research shows that library summer reading clubs and programs are a great way to keep children on track educationally. Children who read during the summer go back to school ready to learn. And, seeing adults read is a great way to model the joy and importance of reading to children.
The Library welcomes you to the Summer Reading Club! There are great prizes and programs this summer that will keep you and your child excited about reading. This guide provides you with details about the special programs being offered this summer.

Dig In — Register!
Beginning June 1, register at The Library or through our website. If you register online, print your confirmation email and bring it to your library to receive your materials and registration prize! You must be registered as a reading club member to be eligible to win prizes and to attend events. See below for additional information on each club.
Important Dates
The Summer Reading Club begins June 1 and ends August 31. All reading logs and book/review entries must be in by August 31. Children can pick up their prizes between August 1 and August 31. Teen and adult winners will be contacted in September.
June 1: Club Begins—Register to get started and get your registration prize! Registration begins for special Summer Reading programs.
July 1: Kids up to age 12 can begin submitting the first half of your reading log for a midway prize.
August 1: Kids up to age 12 can submit the second half of your reading log for completion prizes.
August 31: Program ends, all reading logs and book/review entries must be submitted.
August 31: Summer Reading Fun Festival at Fort Hunter for reading program and club card finishers; 10 am to 2 pm; you must have your completion certificate or a completed club card to join the fun!
September 30: Teen and adult prize drawing winners will be notified by this date.
Children's Reading Club (Ages Birth – 12)
Read (or be read to) for ten hours to complete the program and earn your completion prizes plus a chance to win a Meep!
And don't miss the special Summer Reading Fun Festival at Fort Hunter. There are two different ways to earn your way in to this special event:
1.) Finish the reading program and earn your certificate -- it's your pass to get into the Fun Festival.
2.) Complete your Club Card. When you registered for the Summer Reading Club, you received a "Summer Reading Club Card." Check out books or come to one of the special programs to get your card stamped. Get all six spaces stamped and this becomes a pass to get into the Fun Festival.
Prizes:
- Sticker/Tattoo (at registration—bring your confirmation email to The Library if you register online!)
- Prize Basket (your registration is your entry to the prize basket drawing—bring your confirmation email to The Library if you register online!)
- Explore Your Community Bag including coupons/offers from area attractions (Starting July 1, bring your reading log showing 5 hours of reading to The Library)
- Book & Completion Certificate (Starting August 1, bring your completed log to The Library)
- Summer Reading Fun Festival at Fort Hunter (August 31; bring your completion certificate or completed club card to attend! )
- Meep! (turn in your completed reading log for a chance to win!). And, you can keep reading. For every ten hours of reading you complete you get an additional entry for the drawing. Supplemental logs are available at libraries and online.
Teens' Reading Club (Ages 13 – 17)
Read books and be entered into random drawings for a variety of prizes. Each book you read will
count as an entry (maximum of 25 entries). Not everyone will win, so the more you enter, the more chances you have.
In addition, one lucky teen will be our grand prize winner and win a Kindle Fire.
Prizes:
- $5 fine forgiveness coupon book (at registration—bring your confirmation email to The Library if you register online!)
- Gift Cards: (turn in your reading log—each item you log gives a you a chance to win. Limit 25 entries per person.)
- Kindle Fire: (turn in your reading log—each item you log gives a you a chance to win. Limit 25 entries per person.)
Adults' Reading Club (Ages 18 & Up)
Read books and be entered into random drawings for a variety of prizes. Each book you read will count as an entry (maximum of 25 entries). Not everyone will win, so the more you enter, the more chances you have.
In addition, one lucky adult will be our grand prize winner and win a Kindle Fire.
