| Captain Dave went into Boston, where he met up with the pirates in a place called Fenway. Instead of being asked to join the group, the pirates and a group of fans chased Captain Dave through the streets of Boston and into Boston Harbor, waving baseball bats and throwing peanuts at him. Finding a pirate's life very discouraging, Captain Dave decided to retire. Unfortunately, pirating is a very specialized field - he had no other skills. Finally, he got a job in the Boston Shipyard, scraping barnacles off the hull of the USS Constitution. In just a few months, he was promoted from barnacle scraper to copper fastening polisher. It wasn't very exciting, but no one was firing cannons at him either. Captain Dave had just been promoted to deck swabber when suddenly he found himself once again face to face with the Evil Pirate Twins, Cutlass Karen and Whiplash Wendy. | ![]() ![]() Who made the copper fastenings on U.S.S. PIRATE TRIVIA: Ghosts - Part 2 In Henniker, New Hampshire is a house said to be haunted by a ghost known as 'Ocean Born Mary.' In 1720, a ship of Irish and Scottish immigrants going to New England was boarded by pirates under the command of a buccaneer named Don Pedro. As the pirates removed all the valuables, Don Pedro entered the Captain's cabin and discovered the Captain's wife with a baby girl, born on the ocean trip. When the pirate was told the newborn had not been named yet, he offered to spare the ship if the child was named after his mother. The mother agreed, and the ocean born child was named Mary. Don Pedro ordered his crew to return the valuables thay had stolen, and gave the mother a bundle of silk to keep and use for Mary's wedding gown someday. Don Pedro (who was really English) kept in touch with Mary over the years, and when he retired as pirate, asked Mary to become his housekeeper at a house he had built in Henniker. Mary, now in her early thirties and a recent widow with four young boys, agreed. Don Pedro died several years later of wounds made by a pirate cutlass. It was rumored that a former member of his crew had come looking for hidden treasure. Mary inherited the house, and lived there until her death in 1814. The house has had many owners since. Even though Mary is dead, she is often "seen" in her house. Although none of Don Pedro's treasure has ever been found, perhaps 'Ocean Born Mary' stays to watch the pirate cache until someone finds it. Most owners feel that there is no treasure. They think Mary just loved her house so much she refuses to leave it! | |
