| As Captain Dave sailed the Whydah northward, he met other members of the crew, including Cutlass Karen and Whiplash Wendy, the notorious evil pirate twins. This was the first Captain Dave had heard of female pirates, nevermind twins, but being an open minded modern sort of pirate, he decided that it was a good thing. (The fact that he had a cutlass and a whip aimed at his head had nothing to do with this decision...) When the Captain of the Whydah wisely refused to let Captain Dave prepare his peanut butter and salami casserole, Captain Dave and the Evil Pirate Twins began plotting how to take over the ship. |
PIRATE TRIVIA: LIFESTYLE Most pirate careers were short, averaging 2 to 5 years. Pirates tended to be young men because the duties of a deckhand were physically very difficult and conditions on board ship were often unhealthy. Very few pirates lived long enough to enjoy their plundered wealth. While many were executed or died in battle, even more were killed by disease and shipwreck. | PIRATE TRIVIA: PUNISHMENT Piracy was, and is, almost universally condemned, and the usual punishment during piracy's golden age was death. Western cultures generally hanged pirates for their crimes. In the far East, pirates were beheaded. | Unfortunately, the three spent too much time plotting, and not nearly enough time navigating. Captain Dave sailed straight into a severe thunderstorm, and the Whydah sank off the coast of Massachusetts. | ![]() |

Captain Dave decided that he didn't really like navigating ships, and jumped overboard before the pirates decided they didn't like him navigating either. After swimming ashore, he thought that perhaps it was time to find a new band of pirates to work with, before the old one found him. He learned that there was a group of pirates visiting nearby Boston. So he set out for the city, dodging the Evil Pirate Twins. Apparently Cutlass Karen and Whiplash Wendy were unhappy about being made to walk the plank, and wanted to show their unhappiness with a large cannon.
