Welcome Aboard!
| Ahoy there, Matey. I'll be your guide through these here ports. The name's Cannonfodder
Kurt, and I'm sort of a pirate historian. I'm guessing that you're here to track down Captain Dave's
treasure. I see you're one of the brave ones. Not every sailor is willing to take on Captain
Dave. Pull up a seat and I'll tell you the story of Captain Dave and his pirate crew. Within the story of the dreaded Pirate King of Pennsylvania, you'll find the answers to the questions that are the key to solving the puzzle. So swab your deck and hoist the sails. Let's be getting underway! |
PIRATE TRIVIA: Ghosts The Isles of Shoals lie off the coast of New Hampshire. Around 1720, Blackbeard the pirate sailed away from these small islands, leaving his 15th (and final) wife on the Shoals. Blackbeard died before he could return, and her lonely ghost is still occasionally seen on the rocky shores. Some say she was guarding a treasure chest for her husband. This buried treasure has never been found.
| Very little is known of Captain Dave's early life. The
first record we have of him is from the journal of the English privateer turned pirate Captain Kidd, "March 17, 1697. Arrived back in the Carribean. Weather is fair. Today I met a young pirate named 'Captain Dave.' We sank his ship with one cannonball. I hope the poor kid decides to become a farmer before he hurts himself. Either that or he's going to have to learn how to swim." | ![]() |

Captain Dave did not give up pirating, instead, he became captain of one of Blackbeard's ships. This seemed to be working very well for Captain Dave. Blackbeard, aboard his flagship, would lead his pirate fleet into battle. By the time Captain Dave's ship, at the very back of the fleet, made it to the battle, the fight was over. The only thing left to do was cook dinner and reload cannons. Captain Dave didn't see many battles, but he made a mean peanut butter and salami casserole. Unfortunately, pirate crews didn't much care for peanut butter and salami casserole 3 times a day. So, when Captain Dave served peanut butter and salami for the 143rd day in a row, there was a mutiny.
The pirates, armed with guns and swords stormed the ship's galley and demanded pizza. Captain Dave refused, but did offer a second helping of peanut butter and salami casserole to any pirate who quietly sat back down at the dinner table. Captain Dave, armed only with a spatula, was quickly overpowered and set adrift in a dinghy. | ![]() What Was the Name of Blackbeard's Flagship?

PIRATE TRIVIA: Motivation Many pirates were seamen or fishermen who turned to piracy and smuggling when their traditional sources of income failed. Piracy often peaked during peacetime periods when seamen who had been employed for maritime conflict suddenly were without jobs. Many turned to robbery on the high seas. It was also not unusual for pirates to be "forced men:" able-bodied seamen, especially those with specialized skills such as surgeons, carpenters and coopers, who were taken in an attack and forced to serve on pirate vessels.
