Open for Discovery Crates is a service designed to deliver age-appropriate, high quality reading materials, a music CD and a professional publication to child care sites in Dauphin County.
These materials are used by child care staff to engage children in learning activities as part of their daily routine. Preschool children may spend more weekday time with child care providers than they do with their parents. What happens in the preschool years is essential to a child’s future development—physically, emotionally and educationally. The Library targets this service to current partners and Star 1 child care centers, which are the locations most in need of these resources. Providing high-quality materials to a site along with meaningful interaction by library staff gives child care providers a tool to attain higher Keystone Star ratings, consequently enabling them to provide a higher level of care and education.
