The Friends of the Elizabethville Area Library invite the public to attend a meet and greet at the Library with author Wendy Mass. Wendy will be visiting the area as the guest author for the Friends “Author on the Road Program” for 2014. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Elizabethville Area Library. Wendy will also visit both the Upper Dauphin Area and The Halifax Area Middle Schools on Thursday, March 13th. In her school visit, Wendy aims to inspire the students to read, write, set goals and follow their dreams. Books will be available to purchase and have autographed. Wendy Mass is the New York Times best selling author of fourteen novels for young people which have been translated into 14 languages and nominated for 68 state book awards. Her novels include "A Mango-Shaped Space" (which was awarded the Schneider Family Book Award by the American Library Association), "Leap Day", the "Twice Upon a Time" fairy tale series, "Every Soul a Star", "11 Birthdays", "Heaven Looks a Lot Like the Mall", "Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life", "Finally", "The Candymakers", and "13 Gifts". Her latest books are "Pi in the Sky" and "The Last Present". Wendy wrote the storyline for an episode of the television show Monk, entitled “Mr. Monk Goes to the Theatre,” which aired during the show’s second season. She tells people her hobbies are hiking and photography, but really they’re collecting candy bar wrappers and searching for buried treasure with her metal detector. She lives with her family in New Jersey.

Traveling to Civil War battlefields on the 150th anniversary of the war, David Platt has photographed hundreds of reënactors in living history demonstrations from Gettysburg to Chattanooga. See a slide show and find out what programs will be happening at National Battlefields and Historic Sites in Maryland, Virginia, D.C. and West Virginia from the Wilderness Campaign through Appomattox Court House and Ford's Theatre.
