  • kiteChildren's Book Week

Meet children’s book author and illustrator Will Hillenbrand during the 8th annual Joan Y. Leopold Children’s Book Week Celebration at the Dauphin County Library System!

Bear and Mole decide to go fly a kite on a windy spring day. But first, they have to build one! Throughout the week of October 28 to November 3, The Library will have special displays and activity stations where children and families can do activities related to the book. In addition, Storytimes will feature related themes.

Registration for the author visit events has begun. Registration is required to attend one of the Children's Book Week special events.

    About the Author

    will hillenbrandWill Hillenbrand

As an award winning author and illustrator of children’s books, Will Hillenbrand is lucky enough to love what he does and to do what he loves. Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio Will enjoyed drawing pictures to accompany the stories that he heard in his father’s barbershop. During art school he took a class on illustrating children’s literature – and a career was born. Now, after more than 50 books, Will says, “I still feel lucky to do what I love.”

He has won numerous awards for his work, including an American Library Association Notable Book Award for the first picture book he ever illustrated (Traveling to Tondo) and two International Reading Association Children’s Choice Awards for The House That Drac Built and Sam Sunday and the Mystery at the Ocean Beach Hotel.
