The Library will be celebrating 100 years of library service in Dauphin County with events throughout the year.
Tuesday, February 1811:30 amMcCormick Riverfront Library
Join us for a special birthday celebration for the McCormick Riverfront Library, the stone building at Front and Walnut Streets that opened its doors as Harrisburg Public Library on January 1, 1914.
A highlight of this event will be the unveiling of the contents of the library’s time capsule, which has been concealed in the building cornerstone for more than 100 years. Ken Frew of the Dauphin County Historical Society will be on hand to explain the significance of the items in the time capsule and to describe Harrisburg in the time period it represents.
Enjoy some birthday cake, share your library memories (recorded for the library’s archives if you are willing), view a pictorial presentation of the Walnut Street building through the years—all in the recently renovated building where the Dauphin County Library System began!
Each attendee will receive a commemorative bookmark to honor the occasion.
